Mother’s letter: «Hello! My name is Maria Terytse. With my husband Constantine and two disabled children we live in a rural area Hyzhden, Glodeni district. Our son Christian, born September 20, 2001, has cerebral palsy. Our daughter Anastasia, who was born March 23, 2011, is suffering from congenital heart disease. Accurate diagnosis is: ventricular septal defect (two). State of her health after the removal of the aorta and narrowing тkoartatsii pulmonary artery (2011).т Functionally, the two-leaf aortic valve. Small aortic stenosis.

My entire second pregnancy I was seen by the doctors on a regular basis, attended all scheduled counseling and ultrasounds, but the heart disease in the fetus was not identified. And after the baby was born, doctors for a very long time couldn’t determine the exact diagnose. Pregnancy was with a threat of miscarriage. Delivery was difficult. The baby was born at 42 weeks, weighing 3250 g with umbilical cord entanglement around the neck. On the eighth day after BCG vaccination, her health started to deteriorate. After a day spent in the local children’s hospital, we were transferred to the intensive
care unit in Chisinau, in critical condition. Pale, with decreased body temperature and severe pulmonary breathing my child could barely eat and she wasn’t even crying. Weight dropped to 3100.

To save the Nastya’s life she needed a surgery in Kiev. We borrowed the money from every relative in the village. The first heart surgery was completed successful. We, the parents, on the background of this experience started to develop serious health issues. My husband never formally was employed. Seasonal construction work. Now all the money is being spent on debt repayment for the first surgery. I can’t work as I take care of two seriously ill children. At the moment our daughter is 7 months. She needs a second surgery on the heart and as quickly as possible, but unfortunately we have no money. Cost of the surgery in Research and Practice Medical Center of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine is 8000 Euros. We kindly ask you to help our little girl to grow up healthy and happy!
